Earth Day

Though I have wanted to watch An Inconvenient Truth for a long time, I managed to actually watch it only today. Thanks to HBO. I strongly urge all you folks to see this movie …again if you have to. It is real & we better act fast.

Coming to the action part, if you are in Bangalore, you might want to check on http://www.treesforfree.org/.

Diagnostics for financial well being

Having just crossed the 35 yr milestone of my life, an article in The Times of India caught my attention today – “Diagnostic tools for your financial wellbeing”. A few takeaways from there & elsewhere on the topic :
Some questions you should be asking yourself –
  • Liquidity Ratio – do you have cash to cover at least 4 months’ expenses in case of an emergency?
  • Saving Ratio – how much do you save from your monthly income?
  • Debt Service Ratio or Debt Leverage – how much of your income is used up to pay for loans?
  • Solvency Ratio (liabilities / assets) – do you know how much you are worth?
  • Assets Productivity – what are your assets doing for you? Are they generating income?

Finally, a quick note on financial independence from Get Rich Slowly: The best books about money seem to have the same goal in mind: not wealth, not riches, but financial independence. According to Your Money or Your Life, which may be the very best of the financial books I’ve read, “financial independence is the experience of having enough — and then some”. More practically, financial independence occurs when your investment income (or “passive income”) exceeds your monthly expenses. Financial independence leads to psychological freedom.

First time in my life …

What was the last thing you did for the first time in your life?

How about a Freefall & Bungy in New Zealand!!!!

This is part of what I experienced over the last couple of weeks ..the others being visiting Japan, 4 time zones in 2 weeks, 10 flights in 2 weeks (phew) …cool stuff!

Aamir Khan!

I finally managed (have a 6 month & a 3 yr old at home) to watch Taare Zameen Par about 2 weekends ago. Since then I have been awe with Aamir!!

Though I’ve been a fan of Aamir’s for a long time now, this movie just blew my mind. The performances, the handling of the topic & the various special moments in the movie are just too good. Definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Just before writing this note, thought I would check out Aamir’s site / blog. And the first posting that I see on the site, I notice about 13 of his fans being responded to individually – by the man himself. And there are 2477 comments on this message alone. He is phenomenal!

Am trying to get hold of a mail that I received immediately after TZP was released – a mail comparing Aamir & Shahrukh. Stars in their own right, and as different in their stardom as chalk & cheese.

A proud Aamir fan.
